Psy.D. Licensure
Boston College鈥檚 Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology is designed to prepare students for licensure as psychologists, beginning with licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Licensure requirements vary by jurisdiction. Students who intend to seek licensure outside Massachusetts should review the requirements of the applicable state licensing board and consult that board directly regarding current requirements.
The Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology is not currently accredited by the American Psychological Association Commission on Accreditation. Boston College intends to seek APA accreditation in accordance with APA Commission on Accreditation timelines and procedures. This disclosure should not be understood to state or imply that the program is currently APA-accredited, accredited on contingency, or guaranteed to receive APA accreditation in the future.
In Massachusetts, Boston College has determined that the Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology meets the educational requirements for psychologist licensure. Applicants for licensure in Massachusetts must also satisfy requirements established by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Psychologists, which may include supervised experience, examination, application, documentation, and other requirements.
Students seeking licensure outside Massachusetts should be aware that each state or jurisdiction establishes its own licensure requirements. Boston College encourages students to review the requirements of the state or jurisdiction in which they intend to practice and to contact the relevant licensing board with questions.
This disclosure concerns only whether Boston College has determined that the program meets the educational requirements for psychologist licensure in each jurisdiction listed below. States may impose additional requirements outside the doctoral program, including supervised experience, postdoctoral hours, examinations, jurisprudence or state law exams, background checks, application materials, documentation of supervised practice, fees, or state-specific coursework or training.
Graduates of Boston College鈥檚 Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology may be eligible for licensure outside Massachusetts. Students who intend to seek licensure in another state or jurisdiction are encouraged to review that state鈥檚 psychologist licensure requirements carefully and consult the applicable licensing board directly. Students should also work closely with the Program Director, Director of Clinical Training, and faculty advisor to understand how their coursework, practicum training, internship planning, and other professional preparation may relate to the requirements in the jurisdictions where they may wish to practice.
